Dr. R. Rajendran holds an M.Phil and Ph.D. in Management from Bharathiar University, an MBA, and a B.E (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering from Madras University (Government College of Technology – 1983 Batch). Following his engineering degree, he spent a brief period as a research student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
Dr. Rajendran brings extensive industrial and business experience to his academic role. He served as a Senior Engineer for ten years at Bharat Electronics Limited, a public sector undertaking of the Government of India under the Ministry of Defense. His tenure included work at manufacturing plants in Machilipatnam (AP), Madras (TN), and Bangalore (Karnataka). During this time, he completed a short-term training course at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (General Management), and at the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, Secunderabad (Stabilization System TK-T72). He later managed a small manufacturing partnership firm for six years before transitioning to academia in 2000.
Dr. Rajendran's research interests include electronic business, strategic management, and leadership development. His publications have appeared in journals such as the Digital Business Review, Journal of Electronic Commerce Research, International Journal of E-Business Research, Journal of Cases on Information Technology, International Journal of Enterprise Information Systems, International Journal of Information Systems and Change Management, International Journal of Knowledge Management Studies, and South Asian Journal of Management. He has contributed chapters to several books published by IGI Global, USA, and Springer, Singapore, and authored the book Electronic Commerce Adoption among Indian Small Business (2010), published by Lap Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany.
He delivered a keynote address titled “Development of Universal Curriculum for Management Education” at the 2nd World Summit on Accreditation, organized by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), established by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). He successfully completed an AICTE-funded research project on the "Role of Experiential Learning in Leadership Skills Development among Engineering Students," establishing a Centre for Experiential Learning within the institute campus.
