“Convocation”,

Firebird Institute of Research in Management is an International B-School that speaks the
language of the industry. It is acclaimed for its Industry linked PGDM program which inspires
aspiring management graduates to confidently take up either entrepreneurship or top-notch
placements in reputed organizations. Over the last two years, placements were highly impressive,
with internships and job opportunities with companies like Amazon, Ramco Cements,
Wildcraft, Reliance Retail, Cavinkare, SITEL, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Redington, Byjus,
HFFC etc.

Slightly different from the traditional structure, Firebird addresses its students
‘learning associates’, who works under the mentorship of a corporate executive in addition to the
in-house faculty. In order to fit with Industry 4.0 standards, the Post Graduate Diploma Program
architects academics blended with the 70% practical-oriented learning program. This
pedagogy will add values to the theories and other conventional learning systems, on a regular

Getting dressed in traditional academic regalia with a convocation stole and walking up
the stage for holding that prestigious convocation file is the dream of every student. In fact, it’s a
dream for many parents too because they have supported then in their difficult endeavour. Being
called on the stage on convocation day gives an extra boost to their confidence and self-esteem.

The convocation experience is equally thrilling for those parents whose children are getting
graduated. Behind all student’s achievements lie the sheer hard work, inspiration, and
encouragement they have received from their parents. Whether it’s helping your studies, or

scholars and academics that have similarly assembled for centuries. It is the capstone of their
entire educational experience. It is the like reaching the point of your life which denotes the
arrival of maturity and responsibility. This is the moment which makes the heart go aflutter.
Students dream of this ceremony all their college life because it’s the day when you reap the
fruits from the tree you have been watering for years.

It’s time for the students to reconnect with faculty members who have helped them shape their
life and made them who they are. It’s time when they say goodbye to their fellow classmates
who have helped them study and make memories. It’s time for students to invite their family and

The first Convocation in India:

The first convocation for conferring degrees was held on the 19th of January 1919. The first
Chancellor, His Highness the Maharaja of Mysore graced the occasion with his presence and
delivered convocation address.

A Glimpse of Convocation:

The term "convocation" is commonly heard on college and university campuses across the
world, but it can refer to a variety of events. Convocation implies "the act or process of calling
an assembly of persons to a meeting" in its most basic sense. When it comes to a college or
university, it usually refers to some sort of formal event.

Meaning of Convocation:

to recognize new students' entry into higher education,
to officially welcome new students to the college,
to formally induct new students into the college,
to foster a sense of group identity or community among members of the entering class,
to articulate the institution's mission and expectations to new students, and
to give new students a positive first impression of the college (or, at least a more favorable first impression than that created by immediately subjecting new students to the anxiety of placement testing or the mania of course registration).

The research of Harvard professor Richard Light (2001), who conducted extensive interviews
with college students in order to examine the impact of various undergraduate events on their
growth, backs up the efficacy of convocation. "I remember them because those ideals were
brought to all of us so soon as new students, with all of us a bit apprehensive, all wanting to do
well, all eager to meet new people," one college senior says of the ideas imparted to him during
convocation.

One thing we all had in common was that we had all heard the same welcoming speech. The most important thing was that it set the tone. I believe that attacking us right away when we initially arrived was crucial and a smart strategy" (p. 205).

Convocation at Firebird

Firebird Institute of Research in Management is organising its second convocation on 19th March
2022 for its 2nd and 3rd Batch students. Though it comes as a late gift, the institute has taken all
the possible steps to ensure that its students are never denied of anything they deserve,
irrespective of the stormy and uncontrollable external factors, including Covid-19. Through this
convocation, Firebird spreads its wings yet again to all its students to get back once again to the
prestigious institution, be proud of the legacy, cherish the moments and memories, be a guiding
force to the juniors and thereby establish the brand in the minds of young generations to come.

It’s a great pride and honor to have the chief guest, Mr. K. P. Ramasamy, Chairman of KPR
Mills Ltd. Whose profile as follows.

Beyond being a very successful Entrepreneur, all through strenuous and enduring efforts, the
brilliance of a man is in contributing to the society from what he has earned. Understanding that
the holistic approach to the wellbeing of the Employees is not restricted to physical wellness
alone but also involves social wellbeing, he formulated an outstanding concept of empowering
employees with higher education besides providing trendsetting facilities.

KPR is a keen environmentalist and is passionate about sustainable business. He was
instrumental in planting more than one lakh trees in the Villages and at Units; Re-cycling waste
water at all plants and uses it for productive purposes; Producing Bio-gas from human waste,
thereby reducing usage of LPG; Installation of a massive Effluent Treatment Plant with zero
discharge system and adoption of new technology ensuring economized water consumption at
its Processing facility. To quote a yet another social contribution, he himself has led the’
Swachch Bharat’ (Clean India) Campaign’ at various villages supported by his Employees in a
massive way.

He also founded ‘KPR Charities’ a Public Trust, which through its innumerable work is serving
our society at a large. It imparts high quality education through its Educational Institution ‘K.P.R
Institute of Engineering &Technology ‘which has been ranked at 5th place among the 67 Private
Engineering colleges at Coimbatore and is also ranked as one of the Top 20 Institutions in
Tamilnadu as per the survey done by ‘Higher Education Review Magazine’. The Master Piece of his service towards Education is the establishment of ‘KPR IAS Academy’ that offers excellent coaching for IAS, IPS, UPSC, TNPSC exams. Many of its aspirants have cleared the Exam
under various categories, which were once considered as inaccessible Career.

KPR has multiple awards to his credit. To quote a few -‘Star of India ‘Award from the hands of
former Prime Minister of India Shri Deva Gowda; ‘Best achiever of Kongu region ‘Award from
